No matter the setting Emily is working in, from comics, to Renaissance Festivals, to street art fairs, the foundation of her art remains the same: storytelling.
Emily had started out in the indie comics and small press community, doing a variety of work from cover illustrations, interior colors, to full page pencil and inks.
Alongside, Emily’s personal works are books and illustrations that are often inspired by her interest in tradition, history, myth, and folklores.
As Emily gains understanding from old tales, her goal is to express lessons through art and continue the tradition of passing on wisdom while keeping it fun and adventurous, at the same time, not missing an opportunity to sprinkle in a some historical elements.
Depending on the project, Emily’s uses a variety of tools and techniques, including digital and traditional materials, such as pen and ink, paint, pencil and charcoal.
Emily shares about the illustration process for learning purposes for those who are interested. But also she would like to encourage those who like to make art, to make art. When we were kids we drew, why? because it was fun. So if you want to draw you should draw and have fun.
Emily works out of the Metro Detroit Area and, for seven weeks of the year, in the Village of Holly Grove at the Michigan Renaissance Fair.
